Robot Mechanical Requirements

For Stage 1:

  • Arm must be able to retract to <short length> to grab transistor tubes

  • Claw must be able to pick up 2 transistors tubes at once, but drop them separately. Transistor tubes are <lengths>

  • Arm must be able to extend <medium/long distance> to drop transistor tubes into NAND containers, which are <x, y, total distance, angles> away

  • Claw must be able to make fine movements to pick up and drop transistor tubes into NAND containers

For Stage 2:

  • Arm must be able to retract to <short distance> in order to grab coat hangers

  • Claw must be able to pick up 2 clothes hangers at once per side. For example, we need to have 3-4 hangers in the claw at one time for scoring some circuits. NAND hangers (black) are in 2's, so it needs to grab 2 with left half of claw, then grab 1-2 with right side of claw

  • Arm must be able to extend <medium distance> to place coat hangers

  • Claw must be able to turn 90 degrees to hang coat hangers

For Stage 3:

  • Arm must be able to retract to <short distance/angle> to pick up CPU puzzle pieces from floor

  • Claw probably only needs to grab 1 puzzle piece at a time, maybe 2 to be quicker

  • Arm must be able to extend <short distance> to place nearest puzzle pieces

  • Arm must extend <long distance> to score furthest puzzle piece (top right memory unit)

Other Requirements:

  • Arm shoulder must be able to rotate 360 degrees, in any direction at any time

  • Claw requires 4 different motions via servos: open/close left finger, open/close right finger, rotate wrist, and move wrist up/down (NO sideways motion)

  • Arm must be able to lower claw <short distance> all the way down to floor to retrieve pieces if anything gets dropped

Strategy #1: Scores 3226 pts per 2 Matches

Match 1: 800 pts

Stage 1: Gate Fabrication Area (~30 seconds)

  • Score 2 transistor containers in "NAND" section. One will be right-side-up to add 48 transistors to the inventory. One will be up-side-down to add 96 transistors to the inventory. (Total of 144 transistors in inventory) These do not score points.

Stage 2: IC Fabrication Area (~60 seconds, +320 pts)

  • Place 3 NAND circuits (black hangers) on top "D-Latch" peg (180 pts)

  • Place 3 NAND circuits (black hangers) on top "MUX" peg (80 pts)

  • Place 2 NAND circuits (black hangers) on top "Adder" peg (60 pts)

  • (each NAND hanger = 16 transistors; 8 NAND hangers X 16 transistors = 128 transistors used)

Stage 3: CPU Fabrication Area (~90 seconds, +480 pts)

  • Place 3 Registers in Core Processor Area (270 pts)

  • Place 1 MUX in ALU section of Core Processor Area (120 pts)

  • Place 1 Adder in ALU section of Core Processor Area (90 pts)

  • (pieces placed in Core Processor Area are cumulative for multiple matches, so these 5 pieces will stay for match 2)

Match 2: +2426 pts

Stage 1: same as Match 1 (~30 seconds)

Stage 2: IC Fabrication Area (~60 seconds, +320 pts)

  • Place 4 NAND circuits (black hangers) on top "D-Latch" peg (240 pts)

  • Place 4 NAND circuits (black hangers) on top "Decoders" peg (80 pts)

Stage 3: CPU Fabrication Area (~90 seconds, +2106 pts)

  • Place 1 Instruction Decoder in Core Processor Area (This completes the CP side) (60 pts)

  • Place 4 Memory Units in Memory Module Area (90 points for 8-bit Memory, +512 pts for 8-bit CPU)

  • Place 1 Address Decoder in Memory Module (This completes entire CPU) (420 pts for 32-bit Memory, +1024 pts for 32-bit CPU)
